SEO Tips – How To Make The Most Out Of Your Feeds

RSS feeds have become increasingly popular among the SEO community lately. It’s been acknowledged that RSS can benefit SEO in many and should not be overlooked as part of your SEO campaign. Here are five simple tips that’ll help you make the most of your feeds, and of course increase your search engine rankings.

Get RSS Feeds

Have Your Own Feed Domain

Don’t lose control and fall into the trap of FeedBurner, simply because it easily manages all your feeds without you having to tweak them regularly and also track users subscribing to your feeds. But the biggest drawback of not having your own domain name for feeds is that you’re not earning all the link juice you wanted from your feeds.

See it this way: when you sign up with FeedBurner, you’ll get a link reading something like this: http://feeds.feedburner.com/your-feed-name. Now notice the “feeds.feedsburner.com” part clearly, the domain you’re using will not be yours but FeedBurner’s. This means that if in the future you decide to switch to some other tracking service and take your feed link with you, whoa! You can’t! Because you’ve been using their domain service all this time and it’s not in your control. Therefore, it’s important if you get your hosting service to create you a sub-domain for your feeds.

Float Your Feeds On The Web

You might have aligned a list of popular directories to put up your feed posts, but the trick is to identify the more targeted feed lists, blogs, portals etc and drop your posts. Choosing more specified list will enable your feeds to be viewed by a more interested group of people within your niche. For example, if your feed posts are related to current fashion and trends, then posting them on business community will do you no good.

Employ Absolute Links In Your Feed

Your PageRank and link equity will increase considerably if you decide to use absolute links instead of achor links/ relative links. Using http://www.webmarketingcompanion.com/blog/feed will be more effective than simply using “ABC”. Anchor link works best with the content, but Feeds operate a bit differently and absolute links are recommended for them.

Track Your Feeds

The basic purpose of your blog is to know how much the people like it, so tracking your feeds is extremely important. Once you get the idea what people like or dislike through the feeds tracking, you can write more posts for the topic that attracted audience and abandon the ones that are not so interesting for readers.

Avoid JavaScript!

Whatever you do, just don’t use JavaScript if you’re planning to add RSS to your website, because the search engines just can’t track the pages built in JavaScript and the basic purpose of your feeds will remain un-fulfilled. Use ASP, PHP and HTML instead.

Keep in mind these five little but essential tips the next time you’re planning to utilize RSS, and see the difference and the value it adds to your entire SEO efforts. We’re sure you won’t regret!
